World Traveler Rolls out of Iceland
Gunther Holtorf and son pack up their Mercedes and drive on to their next destination

Seventy-year-old world traveler Gunther Holtorf and his son Martin roll out of Iceland today in their Mercedes G-Class wagon. The father-and-son pair have spend the past two weeks driving around the country in their 1988 4x4, Otto, visiting the bird cliffs in Látrabjarg, glaciers, and all the hot-spots in Reykjavík, among other things.

Holtorf and his wife, Christine, have been traveling around the world for nearly twenty years, visiting more than 175 countries on five continents. Their travels began in 1990 with a drive up and down the length of Africa that was meant to last only a few months. However, the couple were so taken with the continent that they stayed to explore it for five years before moving on to South America, Central America and North America, all the while living out of Otto.

This was the first trip to Iceland for Holtorf and Otto, and the second such trip ever for Martin, who is accompanying his father while his mother recuperates from an illness in Germany. After leaving Iceland Holtorf will return to Germany where Otto will be the showpiece at the 30th anniversary of the Mercedes G-Class. There Holtorf will reunite with his wife and the duo will travel around the UK, followed by a jaunt across the Atlantic to South America and, further in the future, China.
